A Taste of Spring

We had a beautiful couple weeks of sunshine and spring, but for all this week I’ve hardly seen the sky through the clouds and pouring rain. And now the weather people are threatening frost and even snow! In May?! So to bring a little sunshine back into our lives I decided to share a few images from this spring so far.

Sometimes I’m not certain whether spring has really arrived, or whether it’s just taunting me with hints of what’s to come. But once the magnolia starts throwing forth its abundant blossom there’s no more room for doubting.

Brighton and the Cuckoo Trail

This February I stayed at Becky’s in East Sussex. One day we shot a roll of film with my Pentax K1000.

We walked by the sea in Brighton…

A K1000 and an SRT 202 go for a walk in the woods…

Yesterday my new batteries arrived for both of my beautiful old SLRs. One is a Pentax K1000 that was my dad’s, it was the camera that took all of our baby photos, and the other is a wonderful Minolta SRT 202 that I inherited from my granddad. I recently bought an assortment of various expired rolls of film from eBay.

To celebrate my two now-working manual cameras, I went for a walk to the woods to test them out.

I loaded my Pentax with old Fujifilm, which developed with beautiful colours and amazing emerald undertones. While my Minolta had an expired roll of Kodak film, with developed with warmer, softer colours. I can’t wait to play with more types of film so I can see the effects each produces.

Look at these colours!

Fields of Gold – Part 2

I went back to the field today.

It was cloudy, cloudy, rainy, cloudy, aaall day long. However, as soon as I left work there was a brief burst of sunshine. I ran to the field, and took a few more photos before the sun went away for the night.

(Photo taken at 1/4000, f/1.6, ISO 100)

I was so pleased, the sun was exactly where I hoped it would be, and just bright enough to make the flowers shine, with just enough cloud to make the sky interesting. The photo gods were smiling on me this evening.
